Our Focus
BUTTONNOSES Save a Life Program (BUTTONNOSES Rescue) is a Toronto-based,teeny tiny dog rescue, dedicated to saving seniors and special needs pups-the ones that no one else wants.
Our Rescue Dogs
Our rescue dogs are primarily those that have been relinquished by their owners or who are transfers from partner shelters that need our specialized help because of health complications, ageing issues or timid personalities.
In very unique, extenuating and critical circumstances, we have had the opportunity to work with international rescues (and partner shelters) with great success, however our main focus remains closer to home.
On average, we rescue around 20 dogs per year and most come into our care with urgent and costly medical needs.
Our Approach to Their Care
At BUTTONNOSES Rescue,we have adopted a holistic approach to the care of all of our tiny rescue pups, which has been integral in helping them heal and live their best lives. We work with talented and passionate professionals who provide our doggos with traditional and holistic veterinary care, physiotherapy, water therapy, acupuncture, cryotherapy, Bowen Therapy, and who keep their tummies full with nutritious food and healing supplements.
Our Rescue Operations
BUTTONNOSES Rescue is 100% volunteer-based, foster-based and financed completely by donations from our generous private and corporate supporters, plus a percentage of the income from our specialized pet care services for tiny pups (and cats too!) and educational programs.
"Forever Foster" BUTTONNOSES
At BUTTONNOSES Rescue we are very proud of our palliative care (Forever Foster) program for dogs and cats who are experiencing serious, ongoing health complications and are not suitable for adoption.
Through our Forever Foster (Palliative) program we support, feed, treat and house these frail pups for the rest of their lives, which is very costly, time-consuming and requires highly skilled foster homes. Please consider making a donation to help us continue to provide the best care these fragile little ones finally get to have.
Adopt-a-BUTTONNOSE
In addition to our Forever Foster program, we sometimes have a few pups available for adoption into amazing forever homes.
Please DO NOT complete an application if you don’t see any dogs listed below. Unfortunately we are not able to hold on to your application until a pup becomes available for adoption in the future.

You are what you eat! We know this to be true firsthand after having saved hundreds of fragile and sick little pups. As part of our holistic care for our rescue dogs, we only feed them highly nutritious food and healing supplements. Veterinary Needs
At BUTTONNOSES we love our seniors and our special needs furbabies! We also love our younger pups and the ones with no specific health issues, but even healthy dogs need comprehensive medical care and checks. As a result, we have ongoing, astronomical veterinary bills.
Many of our rescues come to us with urgent and critical medical needs. We also have fosters that require a life-long stay with us in palliative care and who require ongoing (and expensive) medical attention. Consider a donation directly to one of our partner veterinary clinics to help with the medical needs of our rescues.

It’s no surprise that BUTTONNOSES requires an endless stream and variety of supplies to keep our pups and their foster parents equipped to help with the basic day-to-day needs and care of our dogs! Gift cards are a wonderful and convenient way to help! We distribute them among our fosters and volunteers to help them with the care of their foster pups. Please contact us for mailing or drop-off instructions.
