Tex - ADOPTED

Meet Tex - July 2019

Meet Tex (aka Little Tex, Texarkana, Texas Holdem, Texter...). This little dude doesn’t care what you call him as long as you call him. He came to BUTTONNOSES when his elderly owner went from the hospital to palliative care.

Tex arrived a little shell-shocked. He’d spent the last few weeks alone in an empty apartment waiting for his owner to come home while his owner’s family tried to figure out what to do with him. They determined that he was unmanageable because he growled when they came near the crate that they kept him locked in for 23 hours a day.

Spoiler alert - he’s not unmanageable. He’s a sweet little dog who is just discovering himself at age 10. True to his breed, he tends to overthink everything. But once he finds someone to trust, he likes naps, cuddles, walks, dinner and some light wrestling - pretty much in that order. Tex is pretty good on lead for a dog who’s never been walked and he loves to be in a car. He’s very polite and deferential with new people and new dogs.

Little Tex is middle-aged for a chihuahua and has so much love left to give to someone who wants to be worshiped and will work with his adorable weirdness. Sure he won’t drink from a water bowl unless it’s at least three-quarters full (who will?) and, yes, he doesn’t appreciate being disturbed from a nap (who does?).

Tex has had little or no structure in his life, which is the thing chihuahuas need most. If you have the time and patience to give him the foundations, he’ll reward you with endless thanks and devotion.
