Marvin - R.I.P

Meet Marvin - November 2017

Marvin, aka the Marvinator, has one of the saddest and most upsetting stories of neglect. At almost 14 years of age, Marvin has been surrendered to our rescue by his “owner”, and his tiny 4 pound body is in horrible shape. We could barely believe our eyes when we finally managed to get him out of the little crate he was hiding in.

Marvin not only has alopecia (hair loss) on most of his body, he is also extremely emaciated. You can count his ribs! But that is the least of his problems. Marvin’s feet are horribly deformed, and the nails are super long and crooked. Poor little guy can barely walk. And don’t even get us started on the mouth full of rotten teeth almost falling out of his mouth.  Marvin is so mad at the world, he doesn’t want to be touched or held or have anything to do with anyone. He just wants to go back in his crate and hide away from the world that did this to him.

First, he is getting a nice comfy bed to sleep in, and warm nutritious food to help heal his little body. In a few days, a vet visit is in order. Please pray for little Marvin.

Update - December 2017

Marvin is doing ok. He seems to enjoy the love and pampering and the good food and daily coconut oil massages that he is receiving in his foster home. He is also relaxing a little bit, and becoming more and more open to being touched and handled.

Marvin has been seen by our regular vet, as well as an orthopedic surgeon, regarding his deformed feet. It's hard to tell what happened. Could be trauma, maybe he landed on all four paws at some point and he never received the medical intervention that would have made a difference. Right now, he is too old and too weak, and his tiny bones are too fragile for any surgical correction. Our goal will be to keep him pampered and comfortable in our palliative care for his remaining days.

Marvin had dental surgery a few days ago and lost all his awfully rotten teeth. He still has 2 pearly whites left and he is not afraid to use them if you upset him, lol. But we love and adore him nevertheless, and will continue to provide him with anything and everything he needs to stay comfortable.

Update - September 2018

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved angel Marvin. Words fail to describe how sad and shocked we are. After all those years of neglect and suffering, it was too soon to leave us in the midst of being loved and cherished and spoiled.

Fly freely our angel. See you on the other side.
