Meet Julio - April 2018
Say hello to this handsome little man who has just joined our foster care program. He is already stealing hearts and tugging at out heartstrings. He has a bunch of health issues that need to be addressed ,including:
- An old eye ulcer
- Teeth cleaning and extractions
- urethra stone and abnormal looking prostate
We are going to get him to our vet as soon as he settles and relaxes a little bit. Stay tuned for updates. You are sure to fall in love with this little angel.
Update - June 2018
Dental cleaning and extractions, check.
Julio's eye has been checked by 2 vets and an ophthalmologist , and the final verdict is that he does not need an eye removal. There is no infection in the eye and the pressure is normal. Even though he may only see shadows out of that eye, he can live a completely normal life despite all that. So we can say eye issue investigation, check.
Now the urethra stone. Or what the xrays showed that was believed to be a urethra stone. Our wonderful Dr., John at Caleodn Mountain Vet Hospital opened Julio's "area" to remove the stone, only to realize that it was not a stone. It was only some calcification at the end of the little bone in his man part. This calcification is completely outside of the urethra, will never cause any obstructions or complications for him, and is best to just leave it there, suture him back up, and let it all heal and he will be good as new. We are happy to report that Julio is healing nicely and should be ready and available for adoption soon.
Taking care of Julio's medical procedures has cost us a LOT of money, and we would appreciate any donations towards his care, and the care of our other foster dogs. Without your support, none of what we do in our rescue for these little seniors and special needs nuggets would be possible.
UPDATE - July 2018
Handsome Mr. Julio is finally available for adoption and is now accepting applications. He has healed pretty nicely from his surgeries and he is even cuter than he has ever been. Here is what you need to know about Julio:
This little guy is the kindest dog you will ever meet! Julio is looking for his forever home as he deserves it more than we know!
Julio is enjoying life in his foster home right now and gets along well with other small dogs and cats. When he first arrived he fit right in and adjusted that same evening, he is very easy going and is just a go with the flow kinda guy. Julio has an old injury in one eye and cannot see out of it clearly but believe us this does not hold him back!
Even though Julio does go with the flow well, he has plenty of character to share with everyone! If you talk to him he will mumble “words” back (he loves chatting, something you have to experience in person). His other interests in life: zoomies, being carried in a bag, burying himself under the covers and of course always being in your personal space, all typical Chihuahua traits.
Julio’s foster mom says that even though he was unsure of his surroundings when she first started walking him he has definitely got some confidence now and knows and loves the word WALK. Julio likes to do his business outside on daily walks but is a peepad kinda guy for sure (he has decent aim too!). Julio really really REALLY enjoys the world outside now, and deserves an active lifestyle to live life to the fullest!
Julio does bark when there is visitors at the door but calms down after he knows who they are. If you like endless amounts of snuggles and an easy going companion with a huge funny personality this guy will melt your heart without a doubt!
