Kiah - Adopted

September 2021 - Meet Kiah

A couple of months ago, we got contacted about a senior cat who was about to be shot in the head by its owner somewhere in northern Ontario. They just decided that the cat was too old and had to go. Our contact managed to convince the owner to give them the cat instead of shooting her. This sweet old lady was then thrown into a sack like garbage, and handed over to the nice person who drove her all the way to us in Toronto.

We named her Kiah, which means “a new beginning” as this was indeed going to be a new beginning in her life.

Kiah was extremely skinny and malnourished, missing chunks of hair on her back and all over her body, smelled really really bad, and was guzzling bowl after bowl of water. Years and years of severe neglect had taken a toll on her.

As it turned out, she was diabetic. And also had kidney disease. We started her daily insulin injections, and healthy nutritious food and supplements. And before we knew it, she started to put on weight, and her hair began to grow out. Within a month you could barely see the bald patches anymore!

Today, Kiah is a happy and charming fluffy little lady with beautiful soft and shiny hair, weighing a whopping 5 lbs. Kiah has come a long way in her healing journey. Here diabetes is now in remission and her kidney disease is under control with the right diet. Kiah is a friendly ball of fluff who gets along with people, cats, and little dogs who are respectful of her space (we don’t know how she would be with bigger dogs). Kiah is estimated to be around 15yo.

Kiah’s forever family needs to be aware that:

  1. Even though her diabetes is currently in remission, it’s not uncommon for diabetes in cats to come back at some point in the future, which means she would need to go back on insulin.

  2. In order for Kiah’s kidney disease to be under control and to slow down its progression, it is important for Kiah to stay on her current renal diet (unless advised otherwise by a veterinarian) which costs around $100/month.

Kiah is a very sweet and deserving little lady with a terrible past and a bright future. If you are interested in becoming Kiah’s future family, Please contact us to discuss the next steps.
