Wanda - Adopted

Meet Wanda-February 2020

Wanda is a sweet sweet little girl with a mysterious past. She came to the rescue as a “stray”. As she was not spayed and had obvious signs of having had many puppies, chances are she was dumped by a puppy mill or backyard breeder when she stopped producing enough income. Like most retired breeders, she was a little startled by affection at first, but quickly couldn’t get enough of it.

When Wanda first arrived in foster care, she was still in fear mode and mistrustful of pretty much everything and everyone. She was really good about giving a warning when she was uncomfortable, but accidentally bit a foster parent who reached for her without paying attention to her warning growl. Fast forward, she’s got her mojo back and is confident in new situations. She trusts that when people pick her up now, it’s for a cuddle.

Wanda does still have one little quirk. She has to be in the same room with you at all times (that means all rooms). If you’re having a shower, she doesn’t understand why the door would be closed. She likes to sit on the mat just to be sure you come out of the shower.

As a rule, Wanda insists on a lap. If you don’t have one, she’s happy to sit and stare at you lovingly. She’s a chihuahua, so she tends to attach herself more deeply to her main human. She loves the company of all people and will bounce from lap to lap, but it’s clear where her loyalties lie. Wanda is great with other dogs. She and her foster sister are attached at the hip and you usually can’t find one without the other. She loves walks, is great in the car and is always up for a new adventure.

Like a lot of little dogs, Wanda has a heart murmur which is not causing her any symptoms or problems at the moment, just something to keep an eye on.

This is an absolute gem of a dog - a total chihuahua with personality to spare who will reward your attention with loyalty and adoration. She would be great as an only dog, although she would probably prefer to be an addition to your pack.
