Marble - R.I.P

Meet Marble

Where to start with this little piglet-faced bundle of cuteness? Marble (named after his beautiful colouring) the Chihuahua is an 11-year-old ball of love, and who happens to be a well-managed diabetic pup who has the most expressive eyes!  He uses his eyes to ‘talk’ to you when he wants something (usually food) by staring at you with those big brown saucers and squeaking out little sounds to get his point across!  The adorableness is beyond words

Marble had the honour of living his whole life in a loving home.  His Mom loved him and took very good care of him, until he developed diabetes, and she wasn’t able to handle the insulin needles and the pressure and fear of missing one of his doses.  She did what was best for this little man, she surrendered him to us where we could provide the proper health care he needed.

Marble needs 2 units of insulin every 12 hours and he takes them like a total champ!  He screams for about 2 seconds and then runs happily to the healthy treat jar for his post-needle snack!

When Marble was first surrendered to us in 2019, his blood glucose levels were very unsteady, and he was getting 4 units of insulin.  After being switched to a raw food diet and some holistic care, his blood glucose evened out and we were able to reduce his insulin to 2 units!  Marble has bladder stones that flare up from time to time. When this happens, we have a solid routine in place including appropriate meds, his holistic care and clean-eating and we can get them under control pretty quickly. Surgery is not the best option for him at this point, and just recently his liver values have crept up and we are doing some investigating as to why.  In the meantime, he is receiving top-notch care and some super-duper supplements and is doing terrifically well.

This little dude is just a low-key, loving, adorable and funny little character.  Marble is such a special boy who is surrounded by both furry and human love, all supporting him in his journey to health and longevity, for the rest of his life in our Forever Foster program.

Update- Oct0ber 2021

Our little Marble has hit a curveball. After some concerning health issues and multiple diagnostic tests, he is now diagnosed with cushing’s disease. Thankfully since starting the meds, his symptoms have improved significantly and by the looks of it we are on the right path.

Marble’s medications and ongoing tests and treatments (for diabetes, cushings, and liver disease) are very expensive . To provide the best care for this deserving little angel we rely on your kindness and generosity. Any donation towards his care would be greatly appreciated.

RIP - November 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dearest Marble.

What a resilient boy. After years of daily insulin injections, and living with cushings disease for over 2 years, Marble put up a short but very brave with cancer before he crossed over to the rainbow bridge to join all the foster siblings that he had recently lost.

We miss Marble very much and he will forever own a big chunk of our hearts.
