Dennis - Adopted

December 2020 - Dennis is now ready for adoption, and here is what you need to know about him:

Dennis is a super sweet boy who has been through a lot, but has so much love to give.

Found in a ravine, it’s suspected Dennis was abandoned. When Dennis was found, he was covered in burrs and had an enlarged testicle. He has been neutered and the testicular tumor was removed and sent for biopsy. We have received the results and we now know that it was diagnosed as seminoma (Prognosis for most dogs with this tumor type is considered excellent. Dennis does not need any further treatment at this time. You can read more about seminoma tumors here. )

This senior has a lot of spunk in him and is a true survivor. He loves to go on walks, is a good walker and enjoys running when he goes outside. This playful boy is low - medium energy. He is gentle and very well behaved and is easy to take care of. Dennis will nudge you for a cuddle, and loves a good scratch behind his ear. Although he cannot hear, he understands hand and touch communication. He has a slight sight impairment but can mostly see and easily find his way around. It is recommended to carry him on any steps/stairs as his depth perception is off. His sense of smell is heightened and will run to the kitchen anytime food is being prepared. This picky eater loves his healthy and fresh food and absolutely loves his chicken bone broth. Dennis is missing most of his teeth and is on a soft food diet.

Dennis enjoys the company of dogs, and likes to copy them. He lives with a toy poodle at his foster home and loves to give puppy kisses to dogs he meets on his walks. He has not shown any aggression or resource guarding to other dogs. While Dennis is friendly with everyone, he takes a liking to males. He has not been tested with children, but suspect his gentle nature would do well with children who are respectful of his age and space. Although he is not quite housetrained yet, he is working on it. And if you keep him on a routine, he will do his business outside.

Dennis would do well in a home, condo or apartment, as he rarely barks. He would thrive in a home with another dog, and with a family who is patient to work with him on communication for a deaf dog. As a senior he truly benefits from a healthy diet and a consistent routine. If you are interested in giving this sweet lovable boy a good home, he would love to meet you and give you one of those puppy kisses with that adorable tongue.

Meet Dennis - November 2020

This little man has come into our care after being found as a stray in the deep ravines just outside of Toronto, covered in burrs and matted to an extreme and with an enormous hanging testicle.  Dennis was taken to the shelter by Animal Control where it was discovered that this is one old furry guy.  He is deaf and partially blind but still sees shadows, so he has no problem finding his way around familiar places!

Thankfully little Dennis’ massive testicular tumour was removed, as was his mouth full of rotten teeth.  This is one of the sweetest natured little fellows ever, with such a lovely disposition and temperament despite having obviously been neglected and abandoned.  Dennis is currently resting and relaxing at one of our amazing foster homes while he heals from his surgeries and gets ready for adoption.  His foster family reports that this little cutie is starting to be a bit playful in their backyard and engaging in some playtime with his foster dad!  He is also an excellent leash walker and a joy to stroll through the city with. Dennis still has a lot of life left in his senior self, and we will find him the perfect loving and nurturing retirement home to spend his time being showered with TLC and cuddles.

Stay tuned for updates …
