Leon - R.I.P

October 2021 - Meet Leon

This sweet senior was picked up as a stray and taken to a shelter before being transferred to our rescue. We don’t know exactly how old he is but the vets estimate him to be around 10-12yo. We have named him Leon.

Leon has a number of health issues that need to be addressed immediately:

  • He is blind, and has severely dry eyes

  • He has a major skin infection that has caused him to lose a lot of hair, and the skin underneath is raw

  • He has a funny gate and an arched back that makes him walk weird. X-rays will be needed to investigate.

  • He has a heart murmur that needs a cardiac workup

We will keep you posted on Leon’s progress, the results of his upcoming tests, and when he will be made available for adoption. In the mean time, if you would like to donate towards his very expensive vetting, please click on the button below.

Update - August 2022

Little Leon was the ultimate trooper. He was in our care for 10 months. He braved rigorous treatments for his extremely infected and inflamed skin which improved dramatically. He enjoyed basking in the sun and cuddles with his foster mom on the couch despite being blind and arthritic. He took multiple eye meds daily to sooth his severely dry eyes. He enjoyed his super slow walks and sniffing the streets. He was loved and cherished every day of his stay with BUTTONNOSES Rescue.

Sadly, Leon started to decline around July. Multiple tests and xrays and ultrasounds revealed the possibility of a cancerous tumor in his intestines. Unfortunately despite our efforts to keep him comfortable for as long as possible, things just got too much for him to endure and we had to make the extremely difficult decision to help him cross over to the rainbow bridge.

Leon touched many hearts and we miss him every day. Many thanks to all of you who helped and supported him during his short but brave journey.
