Daisy & Hurley - R.I.P

Meet Daisy & Hurley - October 2022

You can't have one without the other. They are like the double mint twins, like Bonnie & Clyde. Now in their senior years, but you wouldn't know it with the exception of Hurley's visible cataract  in on eye and partial sight in the other and what we like to call selective hearing as Hurley (16 years young) can hear very well when he is called to eat! Such a loving handsome boy!

Daisy (13 years young) is selective like the diva she is with people she doesn't know but once she gets to know you this other side of her comes out to play. Her beauty is stunning with her golden locks and bleached blonde highlights and her personality is endearing.

Where they came from:

These two little nuggets were surrendered by their owner due to a change in their circumstances. Hurley had been with his owner pretty much all his life, and Daisy came to live with them a few years ago, and they became inseparable ever since. She is obviously Hurley's guide, protector and sleeping companion. They love to share the same bed together, always touching.

What they got in foster care:

Since Daisy and Hurley have been with us, they have been seen by our vet for bloodwork and physical exams. Daisy has only partial sight in one eye due to a previous dog attack that resulted in a scar (the other eye is fine), which doesn’t stop her from being her fabulous self of course! Hurley’s kidney values indicate that his kidneys are not functioning at 100% which is not entirely surprising at his age. Hurley has a heart murmur which is also not surprising for an old dude like him. Neither of these kiddos need medication for anything at this point.

We also switched this dynamic duo to a holistic and nutritious raw diet which they welcomed and adjusted to immediately.

How they are doing now:

Daisy and Hurley have been doing really really well, especially since we switched them to raw food and incorporated some “rejuvenating” supplements. Both are hearty healthy eaters and enjoy a variety of raw meals.

They have formed a pack quickly with their foster siblings and have adjusted to a different home environment very easily. They are currently being fostered in an apartment but they came from a house. They love to be out for daily walks and learn routes quickly, even Hurley with his visual issues. Hurley enjoys smelling the flowers so you may have to coax him sometimes to put a move on. Daisy doesn't want to be rushed either although she can keep up with any young pup. Oh and she doesn't like getting wet so she will go outside in the rain and handle her business toute suite!

Overall, these two have surprised us with how easily they have adjusted to their new life in foster care despite their ages.

Update - August 2023

It’s been a year and unfortunately no adoption has happened for these two exceptional and amazing super seniors. The older they get and the more time passes with them in their current foster home the harder it becomes for them to be uprooted and resettle in yet another home. For that reason, we have decided it’s in these two sweeties’ best interest to remain in our care as part of our Forever Foster program and continue to thrive without the stress of the transition of moving to an adoptive home. Daisy is completely blind now, and Hurley’s kidneys are getting worse. We will make sure they get all the care they need for as long as they choose to stay with us in this world and in their loving foster home.

Update - August 29, 2023

Sadly we had to say goodbye to our lovely girl Daisy today. Her kidneys had been failing for a while but she bravely put up a big fight and did very well with the love and supportive care she was receiving from her foster mom. Today she lost her battle and we had to make an incredibly difficult choice.

Hurley and Daisy were very bonded. Our hope is that Hurley will adjust to life without Daisy with all the love and extra care that he is going to receive from his foster mom and siblings. Please keep Hurley and his broken heart in your thoughts.

Update - October 31, 2021

We lost our lovely old man Hurley too! He left this world and joined his sister Daisy in doggy heaven in his sleep. These two sweeties were inseparable in this world, so they decided not to stay apart for too long. We are going to miss Daisy and Hurley.

Many many thanks to their fans who helped us provide the love and care they needed while in our forever foster program.
