Meet Julia - January 2020

For the first five years of her life, Julia was bred over, and over, and over, giving birth to many puppies that were sold by a greedy backyard breeder; thankfully, a Good Samaritan intervened to rescue her from the breeding program.

After being removed from the program, Julia was spayed and also had many mammary tumours removed & biopsied; unfortunately, they were found to be carcinoma tumours, a very aggressive kind of cancerous tumour, which does not give her a good prognosis. Even though the odds were stacked against her, Julia went through six rounds of chemo, which resulted in her being declared cancer-free in September 2019.

The good news didn't last long though; only a few months later, the tumours began growing back and she was welcomed into BUTTONNOSES Rescue in January 2020. We are still monitoring her tumours as they grow back, to determine the next steps in her treatment, and we have accepted her into our palliative care program, where she will live out the rest of her years - in the very first happy home that she's ever had.

But it's not all bad news...

Despite her prognosis, all of us at BUTTONNOSES feel positive about Julia's future; we have personally seen many very sickly dogs beat the odds, because they get proper care, an improved diet and a lot of love.
